Substitute Preschool Teacher – Chesterbrook Academy

About the Role

As a Substitute Preschool Teacher at Chesterbrook Academy, you will provide reliable classroom support and help maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment in the absence of a regularly assigned teacher. You will work across classrooms as needed, follow established lesson plans and routines, and ensure students continue to receive a consistent and positive educational experience throughout the school day

You Will Also

  • Implement established lesson plans and developmentally appropriate learning activities

  • Facilitate stories, art, music and movement, sensory exploration, outdoor play, and other hands-on learning experiences

  • Support children’s cognitive, language, physical, and social-emotional development

  • Adapt to different classrooms, age groups, schedules, and instructional needs

  • Maintain established classroom routines and provide smooth transitions between activities

  • Provide attentive supervision during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, snacks, rest periods, and transitions

  • Assist with handwashing, toileting, diapering, feeding, and other age-appropriate personal-care routines as needed

  • Respond promptly and compassionately to each child’s physical and emotional needs

  • Create classroom resources and maintain a physical environment that supports safe exploration and learning

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom, including the regular cleaning of toys and learning materials

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and school leaders to provide a consistent and positive student experience

  • Communicate professionally with families regarding classroom activities and daily routines

  • Follow all school policies and applicable licensing requirements related to health, safety, sanitation, and student supervision

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; a completed Child Development Associate credential; or at least 30 hours of college credit, including a minimum of six hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field, and one year of previous experience working in a licensed child care facility

  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed child care setting preferred

  • Knowledge of child development, care routines, and developmentally appropriate learning practices

  • Flexibility and confidence working with different age groups, classrooms, and daily schedules

  • A patient, nurturing, and responsive approach to early childhood education

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and families
