Position: Senior Environmental Project Scientist for Emergency Response Team

Weston is hiring a Senior Project Scientist. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to make a difference in our communities by doing work that helps protect public health and the environment. This role supports environmental investigation, remediation, and emergency response projects and is ideal for an experienced technical leader who can manage complex field efforts, lead project execution, guide technical decision-making, and deliver high-quality client outcomes.

This role supports a critical project with planned work starting in the near term. We are proactively conducting interviews to ensure readiness for onboarding as project activities ramp up. Start timing will align with project kickoff and mobilization schedules.

Expected Outcomes:

* Lead and manage moderately to highly complex field and office assignments, including environmental investigations, remediation programs, emergency response activities, and related project deliverables.

* Serve as technical and field lead on assigned projects or major project tasks, ensuring execution aligns with project scope, budget, schedule, technical requirements, and client expectations.

* Plan, direct, and oversee environmental field investigations and sampling programs at active, construction, remediation, or potentially hazardous sites.

* Lead field teams and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, regulatory standards, and Weston procedures.

* Provide technical direction to project teams, coordinate resources, and support Project Managers and senior leadership in achieving successful project outcomes.

* Evaluate field observations, analytical data, monitoring results, and other technical information to develop conclusions, recommendations, and project strategies.

* Analyze, prepare, and deliver high-quality scientific reports, investigation summaries, removal action documentation, technical memoranda, and other project deliverables.

* Support development and review of work plans, field sampling plans, health and safety plans, quality assurance documentation, technical procedures, schedules, budgets, and project implementation plans.

* Participate in peer review of project scopes, technical documents, calculations, data interpretations, and deliverables to support quality and consistency.

* Ensure compliance with technical specifications, standard operating procedures, regulatory requirements, project scope of work, and applicable quality assurance/quality control expectations.

* Provide technical leadership in selecting methods, interpreting data, solving complex project issues, and determining practical approaches for field and office assignments.

* Interface with internal and external clients, stakeholders, Project Managers, and technical team members to communicate progress, project needs, concerns, and deliverable expectations.

* Identify project risks, constraints, and opportunities and recommend or implement corrective actions to support project success.

* Maintain auditable and orderly files, notebooks, field documentation, correspondence, and project records.

* Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to junior staff and project team members.

* Support project delivery from planning through completion, readily taking on tasks necessary to meet project goals and maintain client satisfaction.

* Evaluate new technologies, tools, and techniques and assess their applicability and potential benefit to project execution and Weston service offerings.

* Perform work at active and potentially hazardous sites using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including OSHA Levels D-A as required.

* Travel may be required, including extended field assignments or rapid mobilization to support project and emergency response needs.

* Participate in on-call emergency response rotations, maintaining preparedness for immediate mobilization and supporting 24/7 response efforts for environmental incidents such as chemical and oil spills.

* Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance for complex project assignments, including providing technical input regarding safety and reinforcing safe work expectations.
