Accounts Receivable Clerk

Description We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk to join a construction and contractor-focused organization in West Columbia, South Carolina. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and confident managing customer payments, billing activity, and account follow-up. The person in this role will support day-to-day receivables operations while helping maintain accurate financial records and strong client account relationships.

Responsibilities:

- Process customer invoices accurately and in a timely manner to support ongoing billing operations.

- Apply incoming payments to the appropriate customer accounts and resolve posting discrepancies when needed.

- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up with commercial clients regarding past-due invoices and payment status.

- Maintain organized receivables records and ensure account details are current, complete, and audit-ready.

- Investigate billing issues by working with internal teams and customers to clarify charges and correct account problems.

- Prepare routine aging and collections updates to provide visibility into receivables performance.

- Reconcile account activity to confirm transactions, payments, and open balances align with supporting documentation.

- Assist with departmental process updates and related administrative tasks connected to accounts receivable functions. Requirements - Prior experience in accounts receivable, billing, or collections is required.

- Working knowledge of commercial collections practices and customer account follow-up.

- Experience applying cash receipts and maintaining accurate payment records.

- Ability to review account activity carefully and identify errors or inconsistencies.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and internal stakeholders.

- Proficiency with standard accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
