Job Responsibilities

* The person in this position will assist Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in correcting findings of noncompliance under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and verify that corrections are made appropriately. These findings of noncompliance are issued through numerous systems, including, but not limited to, IDEA Program Reviews, State Level Complaints, and IDEA Compliance Indicators. Assist LEAs through regular communication, the review of evidence of correction, additional information/clarification as needed, and organize required trainings/meetings as needed.
Collaborate with other staff to facilitate activities, data collection, and report writing pertaining to the Annual Performance Report for Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and other Federal Accountability reports. Provide general professional development and training relating to compliance with federal and state regulations. Provide technical assistance to LEAs and respond to requests for information relative to the implementation of quality programs for students with disabilities.
Participate on work group and task force assignments representing the Office of Special Education Services, both within and outside the Department of Education. Collaborate with team on updating and revising the Office of Special Education Services sections of the South Carolina Department of Education website and the South Carolina Special Education Process Guide. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located in the Office of Special Education Services.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A Bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in education, law, or a related field, and at least three (3) years of work experience in education.
Additional Comments
Some statewide travel is required.
