Position

Job Title: Traffic Signal Inspector – West Columbia

Remote Status: On‑Site

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and monitor signal installation and miscellaneous concrete work to ensure compliance with safety plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Provide daily observations of construction activities and document them on the required reports and forms.
  • Quantify installed materials and record their amounts.
  • Enforce South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) standards for materials, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct material sampling and testing to confirm that construction materials meet project specifications.
  • Maintain effective communication with colleagues and client representatives, fostering productive work relationships.
  • Adapt work schedule to project needs, including night shifts as required by the contractor.
  • Use diplomacy and remain composed in challenging and stressful situations.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in math calculations and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record for fleet drivers.
  • Completion of a pre‑employment screening; non‑drug use is required.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent; technical college coursework in engineering preferred.
  • Desirable certificates: IMSA Signal Inspector or Technician, ACI Concrete, SCDOT Concrete Level 1 & 2.
Related Experience

Candidates with background in traffic signal inspection or construction, ITS inspection, fiber optic communications, electrical inspection, transportation construction inspection, highway construction inspection, traffic operations, signal timing, signal installation, roadway lighting, CCTV systems, dynamic message signs, utility coordination, or SCDOT construction projects are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to visually discern details, colors, sounds, tones, and pitches.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication.
  • Adaptability to interruptions and workflow changes.
  • Capacity to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (hot, cold, noisy) and during night and weekend work as necessary.
  • Work may include active traffic situations.
Expected Hours of Work

ICE offices operate 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Work schedules may vary to accommodate project timelines and can include night and weekend assignments.

Pay Range

Pay: $28 – $32 per hour
