Overview
Your job is more than a job. As a surgical nurse, you support the patient before, during, and after surgery. You work as the bridge between the patient, the surgeon, and the anesthesia team, collaborating to ensure high-quality care in the operating room. This role emphasizes technical nursing skills, teamwork, and clear communication to deliver exceptional patient experiences in a complex environment.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for surgery, review patient history, and provide patient care and support, including supplies, medication administration, patient positioning, monitoring vital signs, and health assessments.
- Complete required clinical documentation and post-operative assessments.
- Monitor patients after surgery for pain, complications, or infection at the surgical site, in alignment with infection control and environment of care requirements.
- Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required.
- Collaborate to identify and meet overall patient care needs or to address delays or safety concerns in care delivery.
- Maintain a safe environment and advocate for patient and staff safety.
- Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional patient experience.
- Initiate patient and family education on the operation and post-operative care as required.
- Must-Haves — Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Operating room experience.
