This position will work inside the Records Department within the West Covina Police Department.
The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies throughout the City that may occur during the life of the list.
This recruitment will close upon receipt of the first 50 applications or Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., whichever occurs first.
We are seeking a dedicated individual for a part-time, limited service, at-will position. This role does not include a benefits package except for participation in the accrued paid sick leave program. Employees would work approximately 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 30 hours per week).
Job SummaryUnder direct supervision, performs routine clerical and general office work of a repetitive nature and limited difficulty; must have the ability to follow oral and written directions; should possess good writing skills, including the correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation and be detail oriented.
Essential Functions- Sorts and files materials and documents alphabetically, numerically, and by other predetermined procedures and methods.
- Sorts, prepares, and routes material for mailing.
- Operates modern office equipment including calculator, fax, copier, and computer.
- May perform tasks using various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).
- May perform data entry.
- May type routine documents, forms and labels using a computer.
- May assist the public over the phone and in person answering routine questions about department programs and services.
- May perform simple arithmetic calculations.
- May run errands and perform special projects for the department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
General office methods and techniques;
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic.
Keyboard (typing) at a minimum of 30 net words per minute. Proficiency with standard office equipment and personal computer software programs as required.
Ability toCommunicate effectively both verbally and in writing; read, interpret, and make routine decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ability to interface with other departments, outside agencies, and the public. Ability to follow oral and written directions and complete tasks with moderate supervision.
Education and Experience GuidelinesQualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on the description listed above under Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, and a combination of the education and experience requirements described below. A typical way to obtain the skills, knowledge and abilities would be:
EducationGraduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. equivalent certificate from an accredited institution is required.
ExperienceOffice Aide I:
No prior experience required.
Office Aide II/III:
At least six (6) months of general office experience including proficiency with computer programs and experience interacting with the general public.
This position also requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard. It also requires physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in a work environment requiring no extraordinary physical strength or other special physical qualifications.
Licenses/CertificatesPossession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
Special RequirementsMust be at least 18 years old.
Work Environment RequirementsMust possess the ability to work in a standard office environment and travel to different sites and locations as needed.
Selection Process- The Oral Board Interview will be weighted 100% of the overall score.
- Applicants deemed most qualified based on their application will be invited to participate in an oral interview.
