Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations and strengthen financial reporting across the organization in West Des Moines, Iowa. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for a detail-oriented candidate who brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound analytical judgment, and a focus on accuracy in a deadline-driven environment. The role will contribute to close activities, reconciliations, reporting support, and ongoing efforts to improve efficiency through thoughtful process enhancements and technology-enabled practices.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and evaluate journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate monthly financial results.

- Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities by completing assigned accounting tasks on schedule.

- Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts, research discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items promptly.

- Assist in compiling financial statements and internal management reports with clear and reliable supporting data.

- Review operating results, identify meaningful fluctuations, and investigate variances to support informed decision-making.

- Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger while following established accounting standards, policies, and internal controls.

- Partner with audit stakeholders by organizing documentation, answering inquiries, and supporting external audit requests.

- Document accounting procedures and recommend workflow improvements, including opportunities to apply automation or AI-driven tools where appropriate. Requirements - Demonstrated experience with month-end close activities in a detail-focused accounting environment.

- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting fundamentals.

- Hands-on ability to prepare and review journal entries with a high level of accuracy.

- Experience completing account reconciliations and resolving variances efficiently.

- Proficiency in bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate supporting records.

- Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and investigate exceptions.

- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
