Manufacturing Engineer – OEM Aero/Industrial Nozzle Manufacturing (Onsite)
About the RoleThis onsite role in West Des Moines, IA focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes for high‑performance aerospace components. The position is eligible for relocation and may involve infrequent travel.
Responsibilities- Evaluate and resolve non-conforming product issues as a Material Review Board (MRB) member.
- Minimize the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) for assigned product lines.
- Define and solve technical problems in manufacturing, assembly, and testing environments.
- Implement cost‑saving and process improvement initiatives on assigned product lines.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to enhance manufacturability of products.
- Develop efficient production workflows and determine optimal sequencing of operations.
- Prepare cost estimates for proposed projects and analyze cost factors.
- Support facility layouts for manufacturing processes and equipment as needed.
- Design tools, fixtures, and gauges using Solid Works; 3D print fixtures to improve manufacturing processes and address safety concerns.
- Create detailed assembly work instructions using Microsoft Excel and Word (experience with Solid Works Composer is a plus).
- Program laser markers and develop operator instructions for laser marking processes.
- Utilize RTX–Lifecycle–Program–Management (RLPM) for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects to develop build plans for new fuel nozzle designs.
- Develop and maintain production routings and bill of materials.
- Work with suppliers to resolve quality and technical issues.
- Act as the technical liaison with customer engineering and quality teams when required.
- Conduct compliance reviews to ensure conformance with customer specifications and requirements.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering (manufacturing, operations, aerospace, mechanical, industrial, or related field).
- Minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Solid understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with MS Project is a plus.
- Hands‑on experience in machining, assembly, fixture design, tooling design, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with special processes such as vacuum brazing, heat treating, TIG/laser welding, and EDM.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Must be a U.S. citizen (only U.S. citizens are authorized to access this program/contract).
