Tax Reviewer
We are seeking an experienced Tax Reviewer to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of partnership, corporate, and individual tax returns. This role serves as a subject matter expert for all tax-related matters, supports complex tax projects and audits, and collaborates across departments to improve processes and drive high-quality financial outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Review partnership, corporate, and individual tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with applicable tax rules, laws, and regulations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for all tax-related matters and provide guidance to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Handle special projects, including tax audits, tax planning strategies, and additional CFO-related work as needed.
- Facilitate advanced tax research and resolve complex tax issues by interpreting tax laws and regulations.
- Assess current tax practices and procedures and make recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Perform ad hoc financial and tax analyses and support special projects as requested by leadership.
- Communicate with clients to gather information about project scope, budgets, timelines, and tax-related needs.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather financial and operational information needed for tax compliance and planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve cross-functional processes and implement enhancements when appropriate.
- Meet with executives and key stakeholders to discuss clients' project goals, progress, and outcomes related to tax engagements.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience, including experience reviewing tax returns.
- Strong background in tax preparation, tax return review, and tax planning.
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting and tax analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using financial systems for tax and accounting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, accurately, and in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to conduct advanced tax research and resolve complex tax issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- CPA or MBA preferred.
- Experience with Lacerte tax software, including tools such as the 1040 tax analyzer.
- Experience with Quick Books for accounting and tax-related work.
- Experience handling tax audits and supporting CFO-level projects.
- Ability to assess and improve tax processes and procedures.
- Comfort working on multiple projects and ad hoc analyses simultaneously.
Work Environment
This role operates in a cubicle-based office environment that is production-oriented and time sensitive. You will work primarily with computer-based tax and accounting systems, including Microsoft Excel and other financial software, as well as tax preparation tools such as Lacerte and Quick Books. The position requires focus, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced setting while collaborating with colleagues across departments.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Des Moines, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.08/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
