The Role and Why It’s ImportantAs Senior Manager of Tax at Hy-Vee, you lead both the indirect tax and corporate income tax functions for a large, multi-state retail operation, staying close to the technical work while managing and developing the team responsible for day-to-day tax compliance and administration. - Serve as the primary liaison between Hy-Vee and its third-party tax provider on all tax-related matters.

- Calculate and schedule quarterly income tax payments to appropriate taxing jurisdictions and intercompany payments amongst Hy-Vee’s subsidiaries.
- Manage tax audits and notices from state and local taxing authorities, including organizing documentation, coordinating responses, and working with external advisors as needed.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and IT to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions, system changes, and new initiatives.

- Maintain confidentiality with all tax, financial, and company information.
- Commitment to the Hy-Vee mission and a willingness to promote the values of the company.
- Deep technical expertise in both indirect tax (sales and use tax, excise tax) and multi-state corporate income tax, with hands-on experience managing compliance across a large, multi-state operation.
- Strong knowledge of state and local tax law, nexus principles, and tax research methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a tax team while remaining actively engaged in the technical details of compliance and planning work.
