About the PositionThe Maintenance Assistant ensures all areas of the community, including systems and equipment, are well‑maintained and in excellent operating order. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, conducting assessments, maintaining inventory supply levels, painting and surface reconditioning for all public areas, apartments, corridors, exterior areas, grounds, and landscaping, and documenting all work performed. The role models the Sterling Touch® friendly, courteous, helpful, timely, and professional manner in all interactions to achieve a very high level of resident satisfaction.
Qualificationsand Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Training in building maintenance/engineering (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing) preferred.
- Experience with painting and surface reconditioning preferred.
- Experience working in senior living, hospital, residential, hotel or similar building maintenance environment preferred.
- Ability to obtain any government‑required license or certificate for a maintenance position in assisted living communities.
- English language proficiency for communication with residents, guests, and staff.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems and furniture repair.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and electronic lock systems.
- Knowledge of furniture repairs and color matching.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Proficiency in safely troubleshooting and repairing most mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in safely using hand and power tools.
- Capable of working inside and outside the community in varied weather conditions and temperature changes.
- Ability to work in narrow or confined spaces.
- Requires the use of body members and hand tools for moving, placing, or guiding objects or materials.
- Requires considerable dexterity and repetitive motion of hands, wrists, shoulders, and back.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull, and work continuously without extended sitting.
- Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull carts up to 100 pounds.
- Experience handling and using maintenance chemicals such as sealants, solvents, adhesives, and pool chemicals.
