Responsible for starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre‑operative medications, and providing pre‑operative instruction and explanation of patient rights and procedures. Must facilitate cooperation with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
In Post OpPost‑anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses care for patients recovering from anesthesia after surgery. Monitor vital signs, assess consciousness levels, and observe patients for anesthesia side effects.
Essential Duties- Support the organization’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Follow approved policies and procedures.
- Participate as a team member in the perioperative process.
- Consider patient rights in all job duties.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, patients, physicians, and coworkers:
- Interactions are respectful and courteous.
- Communicate professionally, using a translator when necessary.
- Document patient information and disseminate to appropriate departments.
- Attend meetings, committees, and in‑services as required.
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff, acting as a resource for patient care issues.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures:
- Report violations, hazards, and noncompliance.
- Enforce safety and security compliance.
- Respond to emergencies with competence and composure.
- Interact appropriately with various age groups:
- Assess and interpret age‑specific patient data and responses.
- Involve family in decision‑making.
- Consider age‑specific requirements in emergencies.
- Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel efficiently.
- Perform thorough patient assessment in the outpatient setting:
- Assess patient status upon admission.
- Develop and document a care plan per protocol.
- Inform patient and family about routine care and procedures.
- Provide comfort and uphold patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Provide safe and individualized nursing care in the immediate postoperative period:
- Assess and document patient status upon arrival in postoperative area.
- Document postoperative care during recovery from anesthesia.
- Provide care based on surgical condition and anesthesia type.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.
Must have a current nursing license in Iowa (RN) and maintain ACLS certification. Unrestricted IA RN license, BLS. Preferred: ACLS and PALS. Experience in an ASC or orthopedics preferred but not required. Ability to set priorities, work independently, and handle flexible hours. Strong organizational and communication skills. Calm under stress and adaptable to fast‑paced schedules.

EducationAssociate’s degree or higher in Nursing or related field.
Experience- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; new graduates accepted with 2+ years clinical orthopedics preferred.
RN license in Iowa, BLS. ACLS required; PALS preferred.
