LEGO Specialist (FT/PT)

Jay's CD & Hobby is a specialty collectibles and hobby retailer serving Central Iowa with three brick-and-mortar locations. We're not a big-box store — we're a community-first shop built by collectors, for collectors.

Our West Des Moines location features a dedicated LEGO department alongside a wide selection of collectibles, retro gaming, trading card games, and hobby products. We take pride in product knowledge, department presentation, and genuinely good customer experiences.

We're looking for a LEGO Specialist to own and elevate our LEGO department. This is a hands‑on role that blends deep product knowledge, efficient set assembly and sorting, and genuine enthusiasm for helping customers find exactly what they're looking for.

We're hiring for both Full‑Time and Part‑Time positions.

• Assemble and build LEGO sets efficiently and accurately
• Sort, organize, and maintain bulk and loose LEGO inventory
• Keep the LEGO department clean, shoppable, and visually compelling
• Maintain accurate product placement, labels, and pricing
• Support new set arrivals, display builds, and seasonal setups
• Identify restocking needs and communicate inventory gaps proactively

• Serve as the go‑to product expert in the LEGO department
• Assist customers with set recommendations, age‑range guidance, and gift suggestions
• Greet and assist customers across all departments as needed
• Provide knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient service at all times

• Operate the POS and process transactions accurately
• Handle cash, card, and other payment types responsibly
• Assist with receiving and stocking inventory store-wide
• Support opening and closing duties
• Maintain store cleanliness and general organization
• Assist with other departments and duties as needed

• Experience building LEGO sets — you know your way around an instruction booklet and can work efficiently
• Familiarity with sorting and organizing LEGO parts or similar small‑parts inventory
• Strong customer service mindset — friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful
• Detail‑oriented and organized with a proactive approach to keeping your department dialed in
• Retail experience preferred; POS experience is a plus
• Able to take initiative without waiting for instruction
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced specialty retail environment
• Passion for LEGO, collectibles, toys, or hobby culture is a strong plus
