2nd Shift Boiler Operator - Hospital Facilities Operations - Methodist West

Overview

This position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operations, installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, routine maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical equipment including steam boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, emergency generators, cogeneration equipment, utility distribution systems, chilled water equipment, building automation, pneumatic tube systems, plumbing, sanitary, medical gases, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems and audiovisual equipment such as televisions.

Completion of this work will contribute positively to the safety, health and comfort of the patients, visitors and employees of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines.

• Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment such as steam boilers, HVAC, refrigeration, generators, cogeneration, utility distribution, chilled water, hot water heating, building automation, pneumatic tubes, plumbing, sanitary, medical gases, sprinkler, fire alarm, nurse call systems and audiovisual equipment, as well as medical equipment like patient beds, stretchers and wheelchairs.
• Performs minor repairs on buildings, cabinet hardware, plumbing, electrical and mechanical items.
• Has knowledge of sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
• Installs new electrical and mechanical equipment as necessary.
• Displays initiative and judgment in determining extent of repairs and selecting appropriate materials and methods.
• Cooperates with Facilities Manager, Supervisor and other employees to maintain equipment, parts and supplies; recommends desired changes in operation and maintenance procedures.
• Keeps informed through periodicals, books, training seminars and other sources and participates in approved training programs.
• Records time, materials and actions in the TMA equipment/work order database.
• Observes and practices safety regulations and accepted procedures in use of equipment and tools.

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent; completion of a trade school course or apprenticeship program preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of five years in industrial or commercial operations; familiarity with plant operating techniques; hospital experience preferred.
• License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license for work-related vehicle use; boiler operator’s license at time of employment or to be obtained within the first year.
