Responsibilities
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment (flux‑cored arc, shielded metal arc, submerged arc, gas metal arc) and computer‑operated plasma/plate cutting machines.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to welding trade.
- Hold, tack‑weld, heat‑bend, grind component parts, position, align, and secure multiple parts using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
- Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Read blueprints, specifications, and other requirements.
- Provide analysis and take‑off for project bids, guidance for projects, and customer communication.
- Provide structural design of all steel and aluminum structures and interpret engineer’s design & construction drawings.
- Report progress to chief engineer, provide direction and review for and support to the group, instruct, train, mentor group members, and help maintain project budget and schedule.
- Use computer‑assisted engineering, design, and drafting software (CADD procedures) such as RISA 3D, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products.
- Confer with project team members and clients to prepare and participate in project proposals and interviews.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in technical field preferred.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in plasma cutting; welding experience required.
- Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs.
- Working knowledge of machines and tools, repair, and maintenance; knowledge of design techniques and blueprints.
- Problem‑solving abilities for all welding functions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact well with other employees.
- Advanced computer skills, detail‑oriented, self‑starter, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable in latest editions of the AISC Steel Construction Manual and familiarity with RISA 3D, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Must have ability to work efficiently with little or no supervision; experience with writing detailed reports highly preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) or licensed/eligible for license in North Dakota (or other required states).
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a PE license highly desired.
This position offers the potential to develop into a leadership role with supervisory responsibilities, depending on experience.
