At Ackerman Estvold Engineering and Consulting, we are seeking a Full‑Time Transportation Engineer to join our onsite team in Minot, Williston, or Fargo, ND. This exciting opportunity allows you to grow professionally while directly impacting your community through civil engineering and consulting projects that enhance transportation systems. As a professional engineer (PE), you'll engage in hands‑on projects utilizing Open Roads technology and work closely with the DOT and various stakeholders. Your efforts will make our transportation infrastructure safer and more efficient, reflecting our strong commitment to customer‑centricity and integrity.

What it’s like to be a Transportation Engineer

As a Transportation Engineer at Ackerman Estvold Engineering and Consulting, you will play a vital role in designing and enhancing the critical infrastructure that propels our communities forward. Collaborating with senior transportation leaders and multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a variety of transportation projects, including roadways, highways, bridges, airports, and transit systems. This role is an exceptional opportunity for a mid‑level engineer eager to deepen their technical skills while leading project tasks that will visibly impact both urban and rural areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing transportation plans
  • Preparing construction documents
  • Analyzing traffic flow patterns for safety improvements
  • Coordinating with contractors and public agencies
  • Conducting site inspections to ensure design accuracy
  • Contributing to technical reports and proposals for clients
What Matters Most

To thrive as a Transportation Engineer, a robust set of skills and qualifications is essential. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline with a strong emphasis on transportation. An Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification is required, with the expectation of obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license within 12 months or already possessing a North Dakota PE license.

Relevant experience of 3–6 years in transportation or civil engineering design and consulting is crucial, as is proficiency in design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D and Open Roads Designer. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving abilities, enabling them to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.

Moreover, the capacity to analyze and model traffic flow patterns while developing innovative solutions for infrastructure challenges will be key to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
