OverviewThe Category Buyer I or II is responsible for leading and acting as the point of contact for the end‑to‑end purchasing life cycle of materials, including planning and executing purchase orders, determining transport, executing agreements, expediting materials, and resolving quality and invoice issues. This position ensures materials are purchased at the lowest total cost while meeting quality, reliability, and urgency considerations.
The role partners with the Category team to build and leverage category strategies, manage supplier performance, and maintain excellent vendor and internal customer relationships.
- Develop plans, generate, adjust and expedite purchase orders according to requisitions, project insights, drawing take‑offs, BOM, and inventory strategies.
- Lead initiatives to expedite tracking and monitoring of purchase orders, mitigate problems and delays, and communicate impacts or constraints to planners and project managers.
- Distribute and facilitate day‑to‑day communication with suppliers to ensure on‑time delivery and data integrity.
- Communicate site access maps and transport information to suppliers.
- Ensure suppliers comply with safety, quality, and performance requirements.
- Build strong knowledge of assigned category, including manufacturing process, key supplier capabilities, pricing, and should‑cost models.
- Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies related to procurement.
- Review spend trends and market projections to support sourcing decisions and maintain competitiveness.
- Facilitate meetings to manage, track, and expedite orders.
- Maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders regarding deviations from best practices when project delivery dates are at risk.
- Verify requisition data and resolve discrepancies with requisitioners and suppliers.
- Participate in vendor negotiations and identify deviations from standard contract terms.
- Coordinate with legal, commercial services, permitting, insurance, accounting, and preconstruction to ensure contract compliance.
- Own purchase order book by ensuring data cleanliness and reliability from requisition to invoice payment.
- Oversee vendor submittals related to materials and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Provide input to the project scheduling team for vendor lead times, material lead times, and schedule changes.
- Participate in regular business reviews with suppliers to assess safety, quality, timeliness, and competitiveness.
- Maintain procurement data, support KPI reporting, and assist with project close‑out and administrative activities.

- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or equivalent. - Experience:
1+ year in purchasing, planning, or related supply‑chain function. Construction industry experience preferred. - Skills:
Knowledge of construction processes and materials, data analysis, advanced Microsoft Office, precision, collaboration, written and verbal communication. - Travel:
Up to 25%.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or equivalent. - Experience:
3+ years in purchasing, planning, or related supply‑chain function. Construction industry experience preferred. - Skills:
Strong sourcing strategy knowledge, independent judgment, critical and strategic thinking, materials and purchasing process knowledge, negotiation, verbal and written communication, advanced analytics, ability to read and interpret engineering documents, accuracy, collaboration, professional interactions, and 25% travel capability.
