SUMMARYThe Special Education Route Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day oversight for the special education transportation program. The position is responsible for supporting the drivers and paraprofessionals within the program and for designing special education bus routes.
This position works a year-round schedule (12 months) but follows an 11-month equivalent calendar, with most Fridays off in June and July and an extended break around the 4th of July.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCollaboration
- Provides essential training for drivers and paraprofessionals.
- Assists the overall transportation department daily operations including answering phone and email communications.
- Partners with Transportation Director and Head Mechanic to ensure buses are equipped with appropriate systems to maximize safety of learners in the special education program.
- Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.
Communication
- Provides training for drivers and paraprofessional staff on bus operations/functions (lifts, seats, etc.)
- Communicates with school staff and district community in a professional and respectful manner.
- Connects with Transportation Director to report any problems/issues that may arise.
- Connects and shares ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity.

- Attends the required annual training sessions as directed by the Transportation Director.
- Keeps current on laws, regulations, and requirements for special education transportation. Works directly with Special Education administration on updates.
- Keeps detailed records of learners' requirements for transportation.

- Ensures all passengers are transported in a safe, legal, and respectful manner.
- Designs special education bus routes in accordance to the Transportation Director's directives.
- Reviews and updates special education bus routes daily to help office staff with learners' busing assignments.
- Reviews the performance of each driver and paraprofessional in the program by riding along on the busing route. Completes the review forms and submits them to the Transportation Director for follow-up.
- Partners with Transportation and Special Education teams to provide oversight for the Extended School Year (ESY) summer school programs; including route design. /li
