Intensive Academic Special Education Teacher
West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill a position for a full-time Anticipated Intensive Academic Special Education Teacher at King Philip Middle School or Bristow Middle School. Essential functions include providing specialized instruction and accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities, collaborating with general education teachers regarding students with disabilities, conducting assessments, testing and diagnostic evaluations of students, facilitating parent placement team (PPT) meetings and assisting in developing Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students, assisting students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior management plans, coordinating with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, coordinating with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual students' abilities and needs, acquiring special knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field, organizing and maintaining a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, facilitating family engagement in students' education and ensuring effective communication with students and parents, designing, revising and maintaining instructional programs developed from student IEP, and demonstrating team leadership skills for a group of para educators/tutors/TBTs.
Must hold appropriate CT Certification (165). Excellent salary, benefits and working conditions. Salary: negotiable per the teacher's salary schedule.
