Position: Special Education Teacher |

An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced Special Education Teacher to support a Transition Program serving young adults ages 18-22. This contract position offers the chance to make a lasting impact in students’ lives as they advance essential life and job skills. You will work closely with a small group—typically seven to eight students—guiding their progress in job site training and daily life responsibilities, such as cooking, cleaning, and community readiness activities.

Your schedule runs Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM, with early release most Wednesdays at 1:15 PM. The role leans toward administrative duties, with a focus on overseeing progress, coordinating with job coaches and paraprofessionals, and providing guidance as students work toward individualized goals like establishing bank accounts or pursuing employment. Participation in IEP meetings (about 7-10 annually) ensures collaboration and thoroughness in meeting each student’s needs.

The school employs the Next Up transition curriculum, and experience working with DDS or other adult transition services is highly valued.

Desired

Qualifications:

  • Connecticut Special Education Endorsement (required)
  • At least two years of recent teaching experience
  • Proven expertise with IEP processes
  • Background in transition programs and/or collaboration with DDS preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, update, and document progress toward student transition goals
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and job coaches for daily activities and job site training
  • Support instruction in independent living skills
  • Maintain effective communication with families and service providers
  • Attend and contribute meaningfully to IEP meetings

This position offers a competitive hourly pay rate of $38-$43, as well as comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision) and a 401(k) option through Principal Financial.

Share your dedication and expertise to empower young adults as they build the foundation for independent, successful futures.
