The Position We are seeking a Special Education Teacher who can teach coursework toward high school graduation and help students achieve measurable transition outcomes. Reporting to the Director of Education, the teacher delivers IEP-based instruction in school and community settings, monitors progress, and guides assigned teaching assistants.
Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver differentiated, evidence-based instruction aligned with each student's IEP, Connecticut academic standards, graduation requirements, and transition goals.
Develop lessons across classroom, vocational, community-based, social-emotional, and independent-living settings and participate in PPT meetings.
Monitor student performance, maintain required educational records, and prepare clear progress reports for families and responsible school districts according to IEP timelines.
Implement accommodations, modifications, transition services, positive behavioral supports, and behavior intervention plans with fidelity.
Coordinate with families, Local Education Agencies (LEAs), related service providers, job coaches, employers, and adult-service agencies; direct and coach assigned teaching assistants.
Transport students in an authorized school vehicle to community-based instruction, vocational experiences, and other approved activities, once appropriately credentialed.
Maintain active student supervision and follow all school procedures related to confidentiality, mandated reporting, health, safety, emergency response, and student transportation.
Qualifications Required Master ’s degree in special education and a valid Connecticut Comprehensive Special Education endorsement (#165, #065, or #265).Ability to teach high school academic coursework and individualized transition education.
Current Physical Management Training (PMT) certification or eligibility to obtain it.
Valid Connecticut driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a public passenger V endorsement and R-360 safety-training certificate.
Ability to complete First Aid and CPR training on the job and meet applicable background-check, health, and training requirements.
Preferred Experience teaching adolescents or young adults with disabilities, including credit-bearing coursework, transition education, community-based instruction, and support for complex social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Candidate Profile We are looking for a teacher who is student-centered, organized, collaborative, and results-oriented. The successful candidate builds trusting relationships with students, teaches both academic and transition skills, and uses progress data to help students move toward graduation and their goals for life after high school.
Schedule, Compensation & Benefits This full-time, exempt position follows the Futures School calendar (220 workdays), including Extended School Year. Regular hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; occasional work outside those hours may be required.
Compensation: $60,000–$65,000 annually, based on education and experience.
