Lay‑out Tool & Gage Quality Inspector
Location:
West Hartford, CT
Job Type: Temporary-to-Permanent (Temp-to-Hire)
Pay Rate: $34.67 per hour

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Gage Inspector to join a leading manufacturing organization in West Hartford, CT. This position is responsible for conducting inspections of complex components and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong dimensional inspection expertise, GD&T knowledge, and experience using advanced measurement equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine inspections of components and subassemblies, determining conformance to engineering drawings and specifications, with a strong emphasis on dimensional layouts.
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) and verify compliance with customer requirements, quality plans, and specifications.
- Complete dimensional layouts of complex components and assemblies.
- Interpret and utilize blueprints, quality plans, control plans, sampling plans, and inspection procedures.
- Participate in product and process studies as directed by Quality Engineers or the Quality Supervisor.
- Operate and utilize inspection equipment including:
- Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) – Vision and Touch Probe
- Micrometers
- Optical Comparators
- Calipers
- Force Gages
- Drop Indicators
- Various handheld measuring instruments
- Prepare accurate inspection reports and document inspection findings.
- Report inspection results in a timely manner.
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials in accordance with company procedures.
- Follow all company quality system policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5–8 years of inspection experience involving complex components and assemblies within metal stamping, injection molding, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Strong mathematical skills, including trigonometry.
- Demonstrated expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with inspection techniques, methodologies, and quality processes.
- Ability to set up and use inspection gages and measurement equipment.
- Ability to fully read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Experience performing detailed layout inspections.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all organizational levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with CMM programming and operation.
- Experience in highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of quality systems and nonconformance reporting processes.
