Overview
Competent Firefighter (Control)
Fixed Term for 12 Months. £38,340 per annum (pro rata £6,590.65). 33 hours over 32 days (2 x day shift, 1 x night shift), shift duty system. Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service is currently seeking applications for a part‑time competent Firefighter vacancy within Fire Control. On conclusion of the process, a holding pool will also be created to support both career progression and the anticipated retirement profile in our control room over the next 12–24 months.
Northumberland is the northernmost county of England, bordering Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and the Scottish Borders. We have an outstanding North Sea coastline of 103 km and a county of rural natural beauty. The council provides a wide range of services to the residents over an area of 5,000 sq. km. We invite applications from competent control Firefighters. Successful applicants will be required to complete conversion training to ensure familiarity and understanding of NFRS processes if previously employed in another FRS or if there has been a break in service.
Responsibilitiesand expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to promote and maintain a positive relationship with all employees and their respective trade unions in the interests of developing a climate of harmonious and constructive employee relations. With excellent interpersonal skills and innovative thinking, the role will support the service’s continuous improvement strategy while also promoting a positive and inclusive organisational culture.

Essential criteriaEligibility:
- You must be a competent Fire Control operative at Firefighter level or above.
- No outstanding ‘unspent’ disciplinary warnings.
