Responsibilities
  • Teach 5 periods in a rotating 7-period schedule
  • Be a teacher advisor for approximately 15 students
  • Work 7:50 am to 3:00 pm
  • Design lessons for each course taught that are engaging, student-centered, and focused on developing transferable skills such as writing, critical thinking, and presenting to peers
  • Assign grade-level appropriate, multi-draft writing assignments, providing student-specific feedback, and assign and manage student writing portfolio reflections
  • Design effective formative and summative assessments that measure student learning and provide students with actionable feedback leading to growth
  • Work with students on developing resilience and effective organizational skills
  • Teach courses at all levels of ability and be willing to teach courses in fields not previously taught
  • Provide a representative number of assessments and grades so that students and their families understand their performance
  • Contact parents of underperforming students or where there is concern for their learning
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and complying with departmental and administrative protocols
  • Keep abreast of developments in both the content taught and new teaching methodologies
  • Effectively use technology to enhance student learning and be aware of new challenges posed by its use
  • Collaborate with the Academic Center and be aware of students with 504s and IEPs, ensuring their accommodations are met
  • Collaborate with department members on improvement goals, curriculum mapping, and evaluation, and on all duties assigned by the department chair
  • Perform other duties such as class coverages, attend department and faculty meetings
  • Teach an experiential learning course lasting one week
  • Arrive at school, classes, and school events on time and with a professional demeanor
  • Attend school events such as graduation, parent conferences, and open houses organized by the Office of Admissions
  • Be a good representative of the school in and outside of the building and attend events such as plays, athletic competitions, and other extracurricular and co-curricular activities
  • Be mindful of posting on social media, as employees are the school’s best representatives
Qualifications
  • Must have at least an undergraduate college degree in the field from an accredited institution; an advanced degree is preferable but not required
  • 2-5 years of teaching experience is preferred
  • Ability to engage students and build rapport
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of diverse backgrounds with a focus on healthy relationship-building
  • Understanding of teaching in a faith-based environment where developing the heart is as important as developing the mind
  • Knowledgeable and competent in delivering content to students with diverse learning styles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite
