Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Plant Engineering Manager, Batch Chemical Manufacturing, Major Plant Expansion | 3610787

A publicly traded global manufacturer of specialty chemicals and advanced materials is commercializing a first‑to‑market materials platform for the electric‑vehicle, datacenter, and advanced‑semiconductor markets, with a nine‑figure capital program behind it. An existing site is being expanded with a major increase in capacity, and you own its engineering, first through the build (design, permitting, equipment fabrication, procurement, construction, and commissioning), then as the functional engineering leader once the new capacity is running.

You also build and lead the engineering team, the senior and process engineers who report to you.

Responsibilities
  • Build a plant's technical backbone from the ground up, not optimize a mature, documented line
  • Comfortably solve problems hands‑on around reactive and hazardous chemicals (flammable solvents, corrosives) in a process‑safety‑first operation
  • Be equal parts builder and leader: set engineering standards and then hire and grow the team that runs to them
  • Wear many hats, flex day to day, and get on the floor to fix things yourself
  • Move with urgency and be on the cutting edge of a material the world has not made at this scale before
  • If you want an established plant with mature, fully‑documented processes, or you would rather not work hands‑on around industrial chemicals, this is not your role
  • Coordinate the expansion's build (design, permitting, process‑equipment fabrication, procurement, construction, and commissioning), then lead engineering once it runs
  • Set and drive the site's technical strategy alongside operations and growth goals
  • Build and lead the site's engineering team (the senior and process engineers), setting standards from scratch
  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership to solve complex engineering and production problems
  • Drive process improvements across safety, quality, throughput, and cost
  • Oversee design and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action on critical and recurring failures
  • Support capital projects from planning and budgeting through execution and validation
Qualifications
  • 8 to 12+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated leadership
  • Manufacturing experience, preferably high‑volume; batch chemical manufacturing preferred
  • Comfort solving problems hands‑on in a hazardous‑chemical, process‑safety‑driven environment
  • Strong command of manufacturing processes, equipment, and reliability and maintenance strategy
  • Capital‑project experience (planning, budgeting, execution, validation)
  • Continuous improvement depth (Lean, Six Sigma); familiarity with CAD, simulation, and ERP or MES systems
  • A 4‑year engineering degree (chemical, mechanical, or electrical) is required;
    Master’s preferred
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary around $160,000, with the full range of $130,000 to $190,000 open to the right candidate, plus a performance bonus
  • Strong 401(k) match plus an additional company contribution, an employee stock purchase plan, medical with an employer health savings account (HSA) contribution, company‑paid life and disability, and generous paid time off (PTO)
Location

Based on‑site in West Haven, CT.
