Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist Overview
Our client is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support the launch and long-term operation of a new manufacturing facility. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, developing site EHS programs, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring experience within a manufacturing or highly regulated environment and thrive in a fast-paced setting where they can partner cross-functionally with engineering, operations, facilities, and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities- Support the commissioning and startup of new manufacturing equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate environmental permitting activities including air, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous materials permits.
- Partner with environmental consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance.
- Develop and maintain EHS procedures, SOPs, training programs, inspections, signage, and compliance documentation.
- Administer environmental permits and ensure all permit requirements are met.
- Manage hazardous waste programs, including inspections, storage, shipments, and regulatory compliance.
- Support OSHA compliance initiatives including Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, PPE, Hot Work, Fall Protection, and Contractor Safety.
- Perform incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking.
- Coordinate regulatory reporting activities including TRI, Tier II, air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste reporting.
- Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and compliance assessments while tracking EHS metrics and training records.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety performance and environmental compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical field.
- 2-5 years of EHS experience within manufacturing, chemical processing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, battery, specialty chemicals, or another regulated industry.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Experience supporting environmental permitting and regulatory compliance programs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience supporting startup or greenfield manufacturing facilities.
- Knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations and management.
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
- Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 systems.
- Experience working with environmental consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of West Haven, CT.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
