Associate Research Scientist (Scientific Writing & Research Operations)

- Scientific Writing and Editorial Leadership (Primary) – Lead drafting, revising, and finalizing major grant applications (e.g., NIH R01/R21/RM1, DoD, foundation, consortium proposals), including Specific Aims, Research Strategy, biosketch support, facilities/resources, and ancillary documents.
- Drive manuscript development from outline to submission: figure-to-story integration, narrative logic, positioning, and journal formatting; coordinate author inputs and revisions.
- Build and maintain a living library of reusable writing assets (standard methods, model descriptions, compliance language, platform descriptions, preliminary data templates).
- Ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and consistency across documents; manage references and citation workflows (e.g., End Note/Zotero).
- Project Management and Execution Support – Establish and run project management rhythms across multiple parallel efforts: timelines, milestones, deliverables, credits, and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs (wet lab, computational, in vivo, clinical/translational, external collaborators) and keep projects on track for submissions, reviews, and deliverables.
- Prepare meeting agendas, action-item logs, and decision records; run effective project check-ins; follow up on deliverables and dependencies.
- Support study planning: experimental roadmaps, resourcing plans, and progress reporting to the PI and stakeholders.
- Lab Logistics and Operational Management – Oversee lab operational workflows: ordering, inventory, vendor coordination, service contracts, equipment maintenance, and scheduling shared resources.
- Track budgets for supplies and service lines in coordination with Yale administrative staff; support forecasting for grant budgeting and project needs.
- Maintain organized documentation for protocols, reagent records, data organization standards, and SOPs.
- Support onboarding of new lab members on operational processes and documentation standards.
- Regulatory, Biosafety, and Research Compliance – Own or co-own compliance readiness across relevant programs (as applicable): IACUC, IBC, IRB interface support, biosafety training tracking, chemical hygiene, and controlled materials documentation.
- Coordinate protocol submissions, renewals, amendments, and reporting; maintain version control and audit-ready records.
- Ensure lab adherence to Yale EHS and institutional policies; implement SOPs and corrective/preventive actions as needed.
- Support data governance practices (data handling, access control, record retention) consistent with institutional requirements.
- Scientific Communication and Lab Coordination – Develop internal materials: project summaries, slide decks, progress reports, and partner-facing scientific briefs.
- Help structure lab meetings/journal clubs, maintain project trackers, and improve documentation and communication norms.
- Contribute intellectually to experimental framing and interpretation; translate results into compelling scientific narratives.
- PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in scientific writing with a strong track record of first-author or substantial-author contributions to manuscripts and/or funded proposals.
- Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple concurrent work streams with tight deadlines.
- Experience with standard research operations: documentation, ordering/inventory, coordination with core facilities and vendors.
- Working knowledge of research compliance frameworks (e.g., IACUC/IBC/IRB concepts) and a willingness to learn Yale-specific processes.
