Summary
This Registered Nurse Manager position is located in the Nursing
- Acute Care
- Medical Step Down Unit service line at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, CT. It is a full‑time position requiring 40 hours per week.
- English language proficiency (written and spoken).
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing school (ACEN or CCNE) or completion of an equivalent master’s level bridge program with a bachelor’s level equivalency.
- State licensure as a registered nurse; temporary appointment possible while completing a bridge program.
- Graduates of foreign nursing schools must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted nursing registration and have a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized evaluator such as ICD.
- Preferred: 3–5 years of critical‑care experience; 5 years of progressive leadership experience; MSN or higher; critical‑care certification.
- Physical Requirements:
All applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the position, with a pre‑placement physical examination to be completed prior to appointment.
- Serve as first‑line supervisory authority and ensure 24/7 operation of assigned units, covering other Nurse Managers as needed.
- Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the unit; be accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate delivery of age‑specific patient care.
- Coordinate care focused on patient education, self‑management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in process‑improvement initiatives.
- Participate in development of care‑delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence‑based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Align nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes; participate in strategy planning and execution.
- Promote an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organization’s vision and mission.
- Other related duties as assigned.
