Research Scientist, Clinical Research, Biomedical Science
Overview
Conducts independent scientific experiments in microarray gene expression profiling and genotyping, Next‑Gen long reads sequencing, single cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics services development. Manages lab projects and lab employees associated with microarray and sequencing services. Responsible for the daily operation of a specialized laboratory within the West Campus Keck Microarray Shared Resource, and related data analysis for research project. Responsible for running of equipment on weekends, holidays, or evenings.
RequiredSkills and Abilities
- Skilled in sample preparation, operating next‑Gen sequencing instrument, and imaging using high resolution microscopes.
- Familiar with cell biology techniques and single‑cell genomic technology.
- Demonstrated ability to perform bioinformatics data analysis with genomic data from Next‑Generation sequencing and microarray technologies.
- Ability to work on weekends, holidays and evenings.
- People management skills; good oral and written communication skills.
Skills and Abilities
- Master’s degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with cellular and molecular biology techniques, experience with operating next‑Gen sequencing equipment and microscopy instrument.
- User Training:
Provide technical training and guidance to users of the research core. - Experiment Support:
Contribute to experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting for research projects using established protocols within the research core. - Facility/Instrument Support:
Support research core operations, including specialized equipment maintenance. - Technique Development:
Optimize experimental protocols and workflows. - Data Analysis/Interpretation:
Analyze and interpret complex scientific data. - Equipment Procurement:
Assist in the installation and maintenance of specialized research core equipment. - Professional Development:
Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and advancements in the field, participate in professional development activities and scientific conferences. - Scientific Participation:
Collect and analyze scientific data for manuscript preparation and grant proposals. - Vendor Relations:
Maintain vendor relationships, evaluate products, and collaborate with purchasing for timely procurement of laboratory supplies. - Education and Outreach:
Participate in education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.
