Join our team as the Chief Financial Officer to lead all financial functions at our law firm. This individual will ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, uphold regulatory compliance, and guide the firm’s fiscal strategy. This role is integral to supporting the company’s overall financial health and achieving its objectives.
Responsibilities- Direct day-to-day accounting activities including receivables, payables, ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations
- Administer client trust accounts in accordance with California Bar rules
- Maintain comprehensive records of litigation expenses, case-related disbursements, and resolved settlements
- Lead monthly and annual closing procedures
- Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting packages
- Collaborate with firm leadership to establish and monitor the annual financial plan
- Build financial models and forecasts to support firm expansion and new initiatives
- Evaluate financial performance across departments, attorneys, and case types
- Provide actionable insights to improve efficiency and profitability
- Track firm cash flow and ensure sufficient liquidity
- Supervise settlement distributions and fee allocations
- Manage credit facilities, lending relationships, and payment schedules
- Ensure all tax filings and regulatory submissions are completed accurately and on time
- Liaise with external accounting and audit professionals
- Design and implement internal financial controls and compliance policies
- Uphold the highest standards of ethical and legal compliance
- Assess and upgrade financial tools and software platforms
- Integrate accounting systems with case tracking tools for better reporting and oversight
- Manage and mentor members of the finance and accounting team
- Work closely with legal staff, operations managers, and partners to support the firm’s mission
- Prepare monthly financial presentations for executive and partner meetings
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; CPA or graduate degree (MBA, Master’s in Finance) preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 2 years in a law firm environment (preferably in personal injury)
- Experience with financial agreements, structured financing, and understanding of exchange-based tax strategies is a plus.
- Proficiency with accounting software, like Quickbooks and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Salary Range: $200,000+ (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
