The RoleThe HR / Office Manager owns the day‑to‑day reality of our Los angeles headquarters and people operations. This role sits at the intersection of HR, compliance, office management, and executive support. You are not here to “check boxes.” You are here to own outcomes
, hire amazing people, maintain compliance, and keep the operation running cleanly as we scale.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for HR questions, policies, and employee needs.
- Own onboarding and off‑boarding end‑to‑end: offer letters, background checks, I-9s, system access, exits.
- Maintain HRIS and personnel records with accuracy, discretion, and compliance.
- Coordinate payroll changes, time tracking, PTO, and benefits administration with Finance and vendors.
- Recruiting: job postings, resume screening, interview coordination, candidate follow‑up.
- Assist with performance reviews, engagement initiatives, and internal communications.
- Help develop, update, and enforce HR policies, SOPs, and employee handbook content.
- Support employment compliance across multiple states, including registrations, filings, and renewals, licenses, etc.
- Coordinate with legal and compliance partners on healthcare, telemedicine, and HIPAA‑related administrative needs.
- Track deadlines, licenses, and documentation to ensure nothing slips.
- Run day‑to‑day office operations at 7060 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90028: vendors, supplies, mail, equipment, errands, facilities.
- Coordinate meetings, trainings, team events, and leadership offsites.
- Provide direct support to the CEO including scheduling, follow‑ups, document preparation, and coordination.
- Assist with bill pay, payroll support, and general financial administration in partnership with Finance.
- Identify operational gaps and close them.
- Improve inefficient or broken processes.
- Step in where needed to support leadership, HR, operations, or compliance.
- This role includes general administrative and operational support beyond traditional HR tasks.
- 3–5+ years of experience in HR coordination, HR generalist, office management, operations, or people operations.
- Must be GREAT with people
- Must be incredibly structured, highly organized, detail‑oriented, and reliable.
- Strong working knowledge of California employment law; multi‑state experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting senior leadership or a founder.
- Experience with startups
- Comfortable handling payroll systems, HRIS, compliance workflows, and confidential information.
- Clear, professional communicator with strong follow‑through.
- Alignment with Better U’s mission and comfort working in a healthcare environment.
- Fully on‑site role in Los Angeles.
- Hourly, non‑exempt position.
- $36‑40 per hour
, with overtime paid in accordance with California law. - Occasional after‑hours work as needed for key initiatives or events.
