Our Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCU) provides 24/7, high‑acuity care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, including acute coronary syndromes, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, life‑threatening arrhythmias, and post‑cardiac intervention or surgical recovery. We are committed to delivering evidence‑based, multidisciplinary care in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care to critically ill adult cardiac patients. The APP will function as an integral member of the cardiac critical care team, collaborating closely with intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, and ancillary staff.

This role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license in a dynamic, high‑acuity environment while contributing to innovation, quality improvement, and excellence in cardiac critical care.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing management of critically ill cardiac patients in the CCU
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based treatment plans for complex cardiovascular conditions
  • Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic studies including labs, EKGs, imaging, and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Manage invasive and non‑invasive ventilation strategies
  • Titrate vasoactive medications, inotropes, and antiarrhythmics under established protocols
  • Assist with and/or perform bedside procedures within scope of practice
  • Provide post‑cardiac catheterization, post‑PCI, and post‑cardiothoracic surgery management
Collaboration & Communication
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding plan of care and clinical status
  • Collaborate with attending physicians to ensure continuity of care and adherence to best practices
  • Facilitate safe transitions of care within and beyond the CCU
Quality & Professional Development
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and cardiac care performance metrics
  • Contribute to department education, mentorship, and evidence‑based practice initiatives
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current New York State license as an NP or PA
  • National board certification as an NP or PA
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1–2 years of critical care, cardiac ICU, or acute care experience preferred
  • DEA license required or eligibility prior to start date
  • Strong clinical decision‑making skills in high‑acuity environments
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities
