Position Overview

Good Samaritan University Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pain Management team.

The Pain Management APP is an integral member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that works alongside physicians to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients experiencing acute and chronic pain. The APP will provide comprehensive patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings while supporting pain management procedures and ensuring safe, evidence-based treatment.

This position is ideal for an experienced NP or PA who is passionate about improving patients' quality of life and providing individualized, compassionate care to patients with complex pain conditions.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Care
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, with a focus on the patient's pain experience, medical history, previous treatments, medications, and psychosocial factors.
  • Develop, initiate, and monitor individualized pain management treatment plans in collaboration with pain management physicians.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment and modify care plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Coordinate patient care before, during, and following pain management procedures.
  • Review inpatient and outpatient medical records, diagnostic studies, and laboratory results prior to procedures and patient evaluations.
  • Perform chart reviews in collaboration with anesthesia physicians for upcoming procedures and cases.
  • Assist with pain management procedures, including trigger point injections, nerve blocks, and other procedures within the APP's scope of practice, training, and credentialing.
  • Monitor patients following procedures and identify and communicate any complications or changes in clinical status.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up care for patients receiving pain management services.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Medication Management & Compliance
  • Manage medications as appropriate within the APP's scope of practice and treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical documentation related to pain management and medication therapy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations governing controlled substances and opioid prescribing, including DEA requirements and the New York State I-STOP/PMP requirements.
  • Promote responsible opioid prescribing and evidence-based approaches to pain management.
  • Monitor patients receiving controlled substances and identify potential medication-related concerns.
Patient & Family Education
  • Educate patients and families regarding pain conditions, treatment options, medications, procedures, and expected outcomes.
  • Provide education regarding non-opioid and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management.
  • Counsel patients on medication safety, appropriate use of prescribed therapies, and potential side effects.
  • Encourage active patient participation in developing and managing their individualized treatment plan.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with pain management physicians, anesthesia physicians, APPs, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate care with appropriate specialties and services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding complex pain patients.
  • Communicate effectively with referring providers and other healthcare professionals regarding patient treatment and follow-up.
