Department: Medical

Position Status: FT

Reports to: Head Veterinary Technician

Works closely with: Hospital Administrator, Head Vet Tech, Clinicians, and Owners

Position Purpose

Provide high-quality medical care to in-patient and adoption center animals as directed by a senior veterinarian.

Responsibilities

The essential job requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Proficiency in animal restraint.
  • Ability to draw blood and place catheters (jugular and femoral).
  • Experience or education in laboratory procedures such as blood and specimen handling, fecal assays, and urinalysis.
  • Familiarity with radiographic techniques and positioning.
  • Administer intravenous drugs and anesthetic agents, understanding anesthesia mechanics.
  • Monitor patients and identify emergencies.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques, including sterilizing surgical instruments.
  • Assist in surgery as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in kennel, prep, and surgery areas; manage stock.
  • Record controlled drug logs.
  • Manage inventory.
  • Communicate and educate clients.
  • Basic understanding or ability to learn veterinary software.
Qualifications
  • NYS license required or eligibility for licensing.
  • Knowledge of instruments and supplies.
Physical and

Special Requirements
  • Ability to restrain animals of all sizes, work with blood, feces, and exposure to X-Rays.
Preferences
  • Skilled, organized, caring, with a desire to grow in a veterinary referral practice.
  • Experience in emergency medicine and private practice preferred.
Compensation

Pay Range: $23.70—$40.50 USD
