Preschool Special Education Teacher

Full‑time beginning the 2026/2027 School Year. SPED Teaching Certification with Endorsement required.

Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher – Preschool is designed to support the instructional process by supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas, developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and classroom issues, and responding to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

Functions
  • Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administer developmental testing programs and subject‑specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Administer subject‑specific assessments to determine students' competency levels.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians on student progress and strategies for improvement.
  • Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Counsel students on performance, health, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrate required methods to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments, addressing individual student needs.
  • Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
  • Facilitate preschool learning activities such as art, science, music, housekeeping, story time, and movement activities to improve academic success and transition to elementary school.
  • Implement parent education programs (orientation, small‑group discussions, resources, home visits) to encourage parent involvement and lead the program.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Model appropriate social and interpersonal behavior (conversation, manners, cleanup, listening skills).
  • Monitor students in various educational environments (classroom, playground, field trips, nap times).
  • Organize age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation.
  • Participate in meetings to convey and gather information needed to perform functions.
  • Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Report incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain safety and comply with Education Code and school policies.
  • Respond to emergencies to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills required to perform multiple technical tasks, including assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment and relevant software, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, presenting information, appropriate codes, policies, regulations, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, stages of child development, and behavioral management strategies.
