Position: Education Support Assistant FT - Youth in Care Advocate

Student Advocate

Serves as an advocate for K-12 students in state custody, traveling across the district to monitor progress, facilitate school-related services, and support student success and well-being. Requires a self-directed, highly motivated individual who can seamlessly collaborate across school and state agencies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Background working with underserved or at-risk youth preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Special Education processes preferred.
  • Strong organizational, basic computer literacy, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for district-wide travel (mileage reimbursed).
  • Consistent and punctual daily attendance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Student Advocacy & Tracking:
    Track, mentor, and advocate for K-12 students in state custody throughout the district to promote overall academic, behavioral, and personal success.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    Interface regularly with principals, teachers, therapists, psychologists, special education teams, caseworkers, guardians, and district staff to align support for each student.
  • Academic & Administrative Support:
    Monitor student academic/behavioral progress, assist with supplemental subject help, and support students in completing forms (e.g., fee waivers, registration).
  • Data Management & Reporting:
    Gather relevant student data, complete required reports/forms, and ensure appropriate personnel remain informed.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality:
    Strictly maintain student and district confidentiality in accordance with district policies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Utah State Retirement:
Benefit eligible employees are automatically members of the Utah Retirement Systems (URS). This means that the District contributes into the URS plan on your behalf each month. After the URS vesting period of four years, you will have either the Hybrid option, which is a combination of a pension with a 401k plan, or the 401k option if you choose.

Both plans are employer-paid. You can also choose to enhance your retirement with URS by contributing additional money from your paychecks into a 401k, 457, Traditional IRA, or Roth IRA.
