Position: Data Center Technician 4

Job Description

An Oracle Senior Data Center Technician will perform key roles to deliver core infrastructure and foundational technologies within the OCI data center environments. As a skilled technician on a wide range of data center systems, you understand which issues to escalate to the appropriate internal OCI groups. You perform repairs, installation and monitoring for your data center spaces, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently.

You continuously learn and drive performance improvement of the hardware, take decisive action when necessary, and follow direction with meticulous attention to detail. You are expected to improve current processes and introduce automation with the aim toward simplification.

Shift & Location

Cloud Hardware Services – West Jordan, UT

Day or night shift, rotating to cover 24/7 data center operations. 10‑hour shifts, 4 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Daily

Job Duties
  • Hardware installation and decommissioning of enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of data center hardware and networking infrastructure.
  • Rack and stack of data center equipment—servers, networking devices, monitoring systems, and other equipment.
  • Rack installation, cabling, power‑up, and hand‑off of servers to internal provisioning teams.
  • Monitoring DC environments using monitoring tools.
  • Responding to tickets in a shared ticketing environment used by Oracle Cloud service owners and teams.
  • Documenting activities and creating/modifying SOPs.
  • Decommission life cycle of data center hardware.
  • Inventory process, ordering replacement parts, and returning failed parts as required.
  • Structured cabling, labeling, and troubleshooting of fiber/copper/telecom cables.
  • System power supplies and cabling installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Executing small projects independently and collaborating with the manager on larger local projects.
Responsibilities
  • Show professionalism in daily data center routine activities in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Adhere to a rotating shift schedule (4 days a week of 10‑hour shifts) including weekends and holidays.
  • Be punctual and provide proper hand‑over reports after each shift.
  • Receive, ship, and install data center equipment as needed.
  • Install, remove, and troubleshoot hardware in data center racks without disturbing other critical infrastructure.
  • Maintain asset inventory and update internal applications as needed.
  • Be accessible via cell phone and willing to work onsite emergencies as needed.
  • Participate in and complete training aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Act within Service Level Agreements (SLA) on tickets assigned to you in your space.

Required Skills
  • 3+ years working in a data center environment.
  • Troubleshooting experience on servers, networking devices, and IT equipment.
  • Inventory management experience (ordering, receiving, and shipping server parts).
  • Ability to prioritize work based on business needs and urgency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in business and technical contexts.
  • Experience taking on‑call shifts and responding to critical events as needed.
  • Experience escalating issues to senior on‑site staff and management.
  • Training and developing team members.
  • Developing documentation and solutions to technical issues and training team members on them.
  • Directing and managing workload for a medium to large team of data center technicians.
