Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position: Maintenance Technician 3rd Shift
Department: Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Schedule: 9 PM – 5:30 AM, Monday to Friday Some Saturdays and Sundays as needed. Times are approximate.
Position Purpose & Key AccountabilityAs a Maintenance Technician, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team, responsible for the efficient and safe maintenance and repair of state‑of‑the‑art hygienic food processing equipment and facility mechanical systems. Mastery of this role requires a dedication to becoming a subject matter expert on each piece of equipment through continuous learning and training. You will play a crucial role in minimizing production downtime by performing preventative maintenance tasks, supporting production startup.
This position requires adherence to strict food safety and personal hygiene standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

- Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, management, and production teams to ensure timely equipment startup and minimize downtime.
- Develop expertise in the operation and maintenance of processing equipment, facility mechanical systems, product processing, workplace safety, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Be open to learning and expanding knowledge in other trade disciplines.
- Perform and document preventative maintenance tasks, complete work orders, troubleshoot equipment, monitor mechanical systems, conduct facility inspections, and ensure equipment meets standards throughout assigned shifts.
- Report on maintenance tasks and progress using maintenance software.
- Prioritize job duties according to management directives.
- Maintain and organize work areas and parts storage for audit and customer visit readiness.
- Practice a “clean as you go” approach in the plant and shop, ensuring all tools are properly stored and secured.
- Track work expenses and part usage according to departmental and accounting procedures.
- Adhere to GMPs, workplace safety standards, and SQF food safety and quality standards.
- Comply with all safety practices and procedures, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout.
- Document and report daily activities, challenges, and learnings through end‑of‑shift reports.
- Follow attendance, break, and time clock procedures.
- Perform tasks such as changing burner tubes and flame tamers, installing VFDs in stainless steel boxes, unplugging drains, and replacing condenser fan bearings.
- Repair pressure washers and other equipment as needed to ensure PSSI functionality.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 1+ years of experience as a maintenance technician.
- Fluent in English.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency in at least two of the following disciplines: high voltage (3 phase) electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, cryogenics, PLC & HMI troubleshooting & programming, plumbing, HVAC, boilers, steam equipment, refrigeration, conveyor systems, vertical form‑fill‑seal packaging.
- Ability to follow processes, read manuals, and comply with procedures.
- General proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with food processing equipment.
- Knowledge of PLC and other computer HMI operations and troubleshooting.
- Hygienic MIG and TIG welding skills.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience with VFFS Packaging Machines.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

- Ability to work in cold temperatures (approximately 40‑50°F) for extended periods.
