Position: Case Worker- SL County

Title: Case Worker
Department: Advocacy Center
Location: Advocacy Center and West Jordan Shelter
Supervisor: Advocacy Center Program Manager (SL County)
Category: Full time (40 hours per week)
FLSA Status: Non‑exempt
Pay: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday, 8‑hour shifts with flexible start and end times (8:00–10:00 am to 4:00–7:00 pm) to meet client availability.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Case Worker provides services to shelter residents and community clients. They support survivors with safety/action plans to achieve self‑sufficiency and independence, and collaborate with internal SVS staff and external community service providers to assist survivors in reaching their goals. The Case Worker connects survivors to resources in housing assistance, employment opportunities, life‑skills/support groups, clinical services, legal/court guidance, and financial empowerment.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance, arriving on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Provide case management services, including initial needs assessment, advocacy, housing‑assistance eligibility verification, rental assistance coordination, development of safety and action plans, referral services, and assistance in identifying barriers and resources.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely case management notes and documentation in compliance with Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, Victims of Crime Act, and Violence Against Women Act confidentiality mandates.
  • Maintain and build professional relationships with community partners to enhance referral processes and resources for clients.
  • Educate clients on housing programs they may qualify for, gather required eligibility documentation, and provide guidance on housing rights.
  • Communicate and coordinate with landlords by providing program information and facilitating successful housing placements or ongoing tenancy for eligible clients.
  • Assist with housing‑related community outreach efforts targeted toward low‑income, vulnerable, and underserved populations by distributing informational materials and supporting broader engagement strategies led by program staff.
  • Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements to ensure the safety and well‑being of children in families.
  • Attend weekly residential and case management meetings to collaborate with shelter and clinical teams regarding client safety, progress, and organizational goals.
  • Deliver individualized advocacy services that recognize and center each client’s cultural identity, values, and lived experiences; apply culturally responsive practices to align services with clients’ unique cultural frameworks.
  • Demonstrate support for and practice SVS strategic imperatives of being part of a 360‑degree, trauma‑informed organization.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all client and SVS information.
  • Maintain professional ethical standards in all relationships and activities and uphold appropriate professional boundaries with clients, employees, volunteers, donors, and vendors.
  • Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend required training as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Minimum of one year of experience in social work/services in the field of domestic violence and/or experience working with families in crisis.
  • Complete 40 hours of core advocacy training with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition within the first six months of employment.
  • Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and respect.
  • Collaborate effectively with SVS staff from multiple departments, community partners, and clients.
  • Communicate professionally and fluently in English.
  • Work independently and remotely at community sites with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including client caseload management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Maintain a valid Direct Access Clearance System (DACS) Criminal Background Check.
  • Obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within the initial 30 days of employment and recertify every two years.
