I. Job Summary

Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load‑lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer or recycle facilities once trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers of waste or recyclable material, which may weigh over 1,000 pounds and require maneuvering wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage area.

They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, and must perform highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments, navigating similar traffic conditions. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, sometimes under tight overhead environments.

Backing maneuvers are essential for all driver roles.

• Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
• Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by Waste Management or directed by the Route Manager.
• Work closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
• Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
• Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
• Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
• Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
• Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
• Perform all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

• No prior experience required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
• Minimum age 18 years.
• Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
• Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement or Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.

Drivers must be able to perform repetitive motions, lift and move heavy objects, remain standing for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
