Job Summary
Purdue University’s Department of Entomology is seeking applicants for the role of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Specialist. The IPM Specialist will lead an Extension program focused on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with primary emphasis on IPM in field crops (corn/soybean/small grains), but will also support programs focused on a variety of economically important specialty crops. You will collaborate with Extension programs, and internal and external stakeholders to promote IPM through delivery of online and in person educational programs to wide-ranging audiences, work closely with colleagues to assist with content creation including the development of web-based resources, videos, podcasts, newsletters, and bulletins as well as coordinate statewide meetings that advance IPM by sharing information generated through ongoing applied research efforts.
In addition, you will support public engagement and media requests and develop surveys. Qualitative and quantitative assessment of in-person and online program impact as a key component of this position.
- Under limited supervision, develop and lead an extension and engagement program focused on IPM of field and specialty crops
- Seek strategic partnerships at the College and university level and externally to increase the impact of Purdue University’s IPM-related applied research and Extension
- Coordinate annual Crop Management Workshops
- Serve on advisory boards to develop programs for annual Certified Crop Advisor meetings
- Work with specialists to generate educational content including newsletters, bulletins, videos, and podcasts
- Support the Purdue Pest&Crop Newsletter by generating timely articles
- Establish and maintain a statewide trapping network for a variety of important agricultural pests
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data generated from IPM Extension programming to assess program impact, and revise and update programming as necessary
- Support IPM communications
- Work with specialists in entomology and allied disciplines to support online content and implementing a coordinated social media strategy to elevate the reach and impact of Purdue’s IPM programs
- Master s degree in Entomology, Biology or related discipline
- 2 years of experience in extension and engagement programming as evidenced by development and delivery of in person and online program content (e.g., workshops, bulletins, videos, podcasts and websites, and media interviews)
- Demonstrated experience with scientific writing (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Travel
