Job Description:

Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track faculty at the level of assistant or associate professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences. We seek an outstanding scientist with research experience in the area of musculoskeletal disease or regenerative medicine. Research topics of interest include but are not limited to: comparative and computational approaches to musculoskeletal biology, musculoskeletal regeneration and repair, osteoarthritis and inflammatory disease, neuromuscular diseases and bone metabolism, and the advancement of organoid and other innovative model systems.

As a member of the Basic Medical Sciences department, the successful candidate will join the newly established Purdue Center for Musculoskeletal Engineering (PCME) and be primarily located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This position represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new initiative integrating engineering, medicine, and translational biomedical research at the heart of Indiana's life sciences ecosystem. The PCME will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration focused on improving bone, tendon, ligament, and cartilage health.

The Center's strategic partnerships with IU School of Medicine, Eli Lilly and Company, Zimmer Biomet, and Bio Crossroads advance the state's leadership in musculoskeletal health innovation. Faculty at Purdue have a long history of collaboration with Indiana-based biomedical device, orthopedic, and pharmaceutical industries and the candidate will have the opportunity to work with established research programs with links to those industries.

In addition to the department and PCME, this position offers unique opportunities for collaboration with ongoing musculoskeletal research programs at Purdue including Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, and Nutrition Science. Purdue faculty also have outstanding opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration through cross-campus research centers such as the Bindley Bioscience Center.

Education

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in anatomy, cell/molecular biology, physiology, or related field and have demonstrated excellence in both research and education. Candidates who also possess an additional medical degree (e.g., D.V.M., V.M.D., or M.D.) are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, well-funded research program, engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research, and participate in training of professional and graduate students which will include teaching within the professional veterinary curriculum.

Application Materials

We encourage qualified candidates to submit application materials online at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). The starting date for the position is negotiable. A background check is required for employment in this position. For questions regarding applications, contact Makayla Espinosa (msespino).
