Elementary Teacher in West Lafayette, IN, US
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Teacher for the school year to join our existing Elementary Montessori program. Elementary Teachers work closely together to provide a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for our students. This classroom is a mixed age group classroom with students ranging from grades 1st – 6th. This role includes implementing Montessori curriculum, promoting children’s social and emotional development, and supporting each student’s individual learning needs.
The ideal candidate has a genuine love for working with children and a commitment to Montessori philosophy.
Montessori School of Greater Lafayette (MSGL) is a private, independent, secular, 501(c)(3) nonprofit school accredited by the American Montessori Society. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, MSGL has served the community for over 50 years and offers school-year and summer camp programs for children from infancy through sixth grade. MSGL’s facilities provide an immersive indoor and outdoor learning environment. Our experienced and dedicated staff support children in developing self-awareness and an understanding of the world around them through balanced independence and structure within mixed-age classroom communities.
Responsibilities- Provide a high standard of care and instruction to elementary students
- Prepare lessons in accordance with American Montessori Society (AMS) standards and aligned with the mission and philosophy of Montessori School of Greater Lafayette
- Prepare, update, and share weekly lesson plans with teaching partner(s)
- Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps in collaboration with the Elementary Team and Executive Director
- Prepare an annual statement of professional goals and objectives for evaluation and growth
- Support a diverse range of learners, including neurodivergent students, through individualized instruction and observation-based planning
- Supervise students during outdoor learning, transitions, and school outings
- Communicate regularly with parents for consultation and collaboration, including regular classroom newsletters
- Be in attendance at school in accordance with the terms set forth in the letter of agreement, current elementary school hours 8am–3:15pm on an August–May school calendar
- Maintain a prepared classroom environment and other instructional spaces
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and progress in Transparent Classroom
- Prepare for and participate in bi-annual parent-teacher conferences
- Participate in regularly scheduled day trips and experiential learning opportunities
- Attend and participate in sparse evening events such as Open House, Parent Education, and corporation events as scheduled
- Attend and participate in program-level, faculty, and all-staff meetings
- Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school personnel
- Comply with MSGL policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Model the values of the MSGL Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community Norms
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Executive Director
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field - Required:
MACTE accredited Montessori credential in Elementary OR agreement to immediately (Prior to August 2026) enroll in a MACTE accredited Montessori credentialing program for Elementary level. - Required:
Successfully complete a background check. - Required:
At least one professional reference. - Preferred:
At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience, ages 6-12.
- $45,000 – 50,000 for school year (August–May), supporting work-life balance aligned with the academic calendar, based on experience, education, and credentials.
