RESIDENCY TRAINING IN VETERINARY ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY AND MS DEGREE PROGRAM AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB;  ) and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL;  ) invite applications from veterinarians or veterinary students in their final year of the professional veterinary curriculum who are committed to a career in veterinary anatomic pathology. This challenging and rewarding three-year program culminates in a non-thesis M.S. degree and fulfills the training requirements for the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) certifying examination.

The program comprises supervised postmortem examinations and surgical biopsy services for various species from Purdue Veterinary Hospital and external clients, graduate courses and seminars in pathology and related disciplines, teaching assignments, and a scholarly project in diagnostic or experimental pathology.

Faculty members in CPB and ADDL include anatomic pathologists, clinical pathologists, toxicologists, microbiologists, and scientists in other disciplines. Following completion of the 3-year pathology training program, residents may have the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. in areas such as pathobiology, infectious diseases, immunopathology, toxicologic pathology, or cancer research. Coursework completed during the residency/MS program may be credited toward pursuing a Ph.D. Purdue University is also a graduate partner in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Comparative Biomedical Scientist Training Program (

), which provides graduate students the opportunity for residency training in a university setting, followed by dissertational research at the NIH laboratories.

A DVM or equivalent degree is required by the starting date. The beginning salary is $39,500 with benefits, a tuition waiver, and yearly merit raises.
