Systems Engineer
A Controls Engineer position supporting system test and integration rigs is currently available at Belcan in West Lafayette, Indiana. The individual will be based initially at the Purdue Technology Center Aerospace (PTCA). This is a full-time, direct job with full benefits.
Job Duties- Working directly with others from the Test Rig and Simulation teams to schedule, configure, maintain and operate the multi-purpose system, software and integration test rigs which are used for testing of gas turbine system electronics, controls and applicable components.
- Use your skills and expertise to debug, troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on the test rig set up, configuration and various units under test. Including performing debugging / troubleshooting of systems and software throughout the development process.
- Review system and software verification findings and errors to determine root cause and provide recommendations on how to remedy or resolve the issue.
- Support design and integration of new engine component features throughout the product maturity lifecycle.
- Hands on instillation of components and support multiple stakeholders through verification and validation.
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Previous test rig experience required; recommended experience building or modifying.
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
- Aptitude for computers, software, and scripting languages.
- Comfortable working with electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, etc.
- Experience with scripting, scripting principles, and scripting languages (Python, Perl, "homegrown" language, etc.).
- Ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment including virtual teams.
- Self‑motivated and highly organized contributor willing to help others succeed.
- Strong interpersonal skills; inquisitive and highly communicative to enable team engagement and representation to customers and stakeholders.
- Ability to travel locally up to 50%.
- Basic knowledge of requirements databases and/or software development tools, such as Matlab/Simulink, Lab View, DOORS, etc.
- Understanding of control theory concepts and components, such as closed‑loop control, sensors, actuators, feedback, signal conditioning, failure detection, microcontrollers, processor scheduling and timing, embedded software, data analysis techniques, and testing methods.
- Willingness to work off‑shift hours on occasion.
- Interest in aviation and/or aerospace applications.
We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position offers a salary range of $75,000 to $135,000. Benefits offered may include health care, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), education assistance, paid time off, holidays, and any other paid leave required by law.
