Job Summary
Purdue University – Energy Management is seeking a Senior Facilities Systems Control Designer Specialist to support the design, coordination, and continuous improvement of building automation and HVAC control systems across campus.
This role works independently to develop and review detailed control system designs and specifications, contributing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle—from concept through implementation. The position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing Building Automation Systems (BAS), while collaborating with internal partners and external vendors to ensure effective system performance and integration.
Location:
West Lafayette
- Develop and review design drawings, specifications, and sequences for HVAC and BAS control systems
- Provide technical support, coordination, and planning across projects and stakeholders
- Support Retro-Commissioning (RCx) efforts, including identifying system improvements and assisting with program implementation
- Develop commissioning (Cx) plans to ensure building systems operate as intended
- Contribute to curtailment planning and implementation to support campus-wide efficiency and response efforts
- Participate in problem-solving, system troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives within facilities systems
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with HVAC control systems, including direct digital controls and building automation systems
- Strong ability to interpret mechanical and control system documentation
- Effective communication, organization, and technical problem‑solving skills
- Four years of experience with heating, ventilation and air conditioning control systems in an industrial setting
- Experience with direct digital controls and pneumatics
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, pneumatic control prints, and electric/electronic schematics, along with interpreting sequence of operation
- Must be able to operate, read and interpret technical materials and work under pressure during system malfunctions
- Familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC equipment and repair
- Basic knowledge of electrical motor starters, air and water balance and electronics
- Computer skills including knowledge of Direct Digital Control systems and associated software
- Organization skills and verbal and written communication skills
This position offers a mix of design-focused work and collaboration with operations and maintenance teams, supporting both office‑based and on‑site system evaluation activities.
