Hardware Technician

This Hardware Technician position is based in West Lafayette, Indiana and supports the development of next-generation wearable computing technologies. The role focuses on advanced hardware prototyping, board-level diagnostics, and precision electronics work to support cutting-edge communication platforms.

Working within a highly hands-on engineering environment, the successful candidate will contribute across prototype development, testing, hardware debugging, and design iteration while collaborating closely with engineering teams to accelerate product development. • Perform precision micro-soldering, SMT rework, and board-level repair on prototype electronics.
• Carry out PCB re-balling and execute engineering change orders for hardware revisions.
• Diagnose hardware faults using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and laboratory testing equipment.
• Operate and maintain reflow ovens and hardware lab infrastructure.
• Document testing activities using photographs, trace captures, and structured test records.
• Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot and improve prototype functionality.
• Support validation and optimization of early-stage hardware systems.
• Assist with hardware iteration cycles to improve reliability and performance.
• Maintain organized lab processes and support rapid hardware development workflows.

• Expertise in 0201 micro-soldering techniques and SMT-level board repair.
• Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, microscopes, and reflow equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in troubleshooting electronic systems.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical hardware experience demonstrated through projects or portfolio.
• Knowledge of PCB diagnostics and prototype hardware validation.
• Experience working in electronics laboratories or engineering development environments.
• Exposure to low-power electronics, wearables, IoT systems, or rapid prototyping environments.
• Familiarity with inspection methods such as AOI or X-ray analysis for fine-pitch boards.
• Industry certifications such as IPC, WHMA, or J-STD-001 considered advantageous.
