Utility Custodian, Evening

Discover an exciting opportunity to support Purdue University’s campus as an Evening Utility Custodian.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Work independently under limited supervision, providing custodial and specialized cleaning support to cover vacancies and supplement work crews anywhere on campus.
  • Respond to customer needs and requests, relying on personal judgment and application of previous experience and established practices and procedures.
  • Respond to campus crisis situations to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage.
  • Respond to emergency calls and assist with snow and ice removal.
  • May work in restricted access areas requiring highly specialized procedures, training, or certification.

Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm

Hourly Pay: $17.50 plus a shift differential of $0.70 for a total of $18.20

What We’re Looking For

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • At least 18 months of custodial experience with three years of total work experience.
  • Must have completed the Building Services Custodial Development Program, or be enrolled in the program within 90 days of hire.
Skills Needed
  • Ability to supervise and train small (3‑10) groups.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Basic mathematics and computer proficiency.
  • Good work organization ability.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding building maintenance and security.
  • Working knowledge of power and non‑powered floor care equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment will be required during specific work duties as determined by the department.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25‑50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to work efficiently and professionally in a fast‑paced and diverse team setting.
  • Will work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 °F or above 90 °F.
  • A valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license.
