Process Technician

The Process Technician plays a key role in manufacturing sensing elements used in advanced detection systems. This role operates production equipment, prepares and monitors chemical-based batches, and performs in-process testing to ensure products meet strict specifications. The Process Technician follows detailed Standard Operating Procedures and instructions to fabricate, inspect, and package products while maintaining accurate production and inventory records. This position directly supports the development of cutting-edge technologies that contribute to safety and protection in critical applications.

Responsibilities

• Operate manufacturing equipment to produce sensing elements and chemical-based products according to Standard Operating Procedures and manufacturing documentation.
• Weigh, measure, and verify raw materials to ensure batches contain the correct ingredients in the proper quantities.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records of raw materials used in batch manufacturing.
• Complete and maintain detailed batch records and data sheets for batches in process and finished products.
• Perform in-process tests, including hardness, weight, variation, pH, and moisture content, to ensure batches meet specifications.
• Recognize equipment and product issues, notify appropriate personnel, and assist in troubleshooting to maintain optimal production levels.
• Manually assemble mechanical parts into sub-units or complete units in accordance with assembly instructions, process documents, and travelers.
• Perform mechanical assembly work involving pneumatic and optical micro assemblies.
• Conduct leak checks and create vacuum seals on equipment as required by the process.
• Wire electronic components into sub-units or complete units following manufacturing documentation.
• Assemble parts into sub-assemblies and complete units, including process assembly, inspection, modifications, upgrades, and rework.
• Manually assemble and package products, ensuring correct labeling, documentation, and quality standards.
• Fabricate, inspect, and package chemical-based products safely and accurately.
• Organize materials and maintain orderly, efficient work areas.
• Accurately complete production records, logs, and data sheets using relevant computer applications.
• Identify and suggest opportunities for process and workflow improvements as part of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment in compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Handle laboratory equipment, tools, and chemicals safely and responsibly in accordance with established procedures.
• Collaborate with team members while being able to work independently at a designated workbench.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors regarding production status, issues, and improvement ideas.

Essential Skills

• Ability to follow written Standard Operating Procedures and verbal instructions to fabricate, inspect, and package products.
• Experience operating manufacturing equipment and working in an assembly or production environment.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to manage materials, work areas, and documentation efficiently.
• Proficiency with relevant computer applications, including Microsoft Office, for maintaining production and batch records.
• Ability to safely handle laboratory equipment, tools, and chemicals.
• Mechanical assembly skills, including assembling mechanical parts into sub-units or complete units using manufacturing documentation.
• Understanding of mechanical assembly concepts, including pneumatic and optical micro assemblies.
• Ability to perform leak checks and create vacuum seals on equipment.
• Basic electrical wiring skills to wire electronic components into sub-units or complete units following documentation.
• Experience performing in-process testing such as hardness, weight, variation, pH, and moisture content.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, documentation, and assembly work.
• Good manual dexterity for handling small components and precise assembly tasks.
• Ability to recognize equipment and product problems and support troubleshooting efforts.
• Self-motivation, dependability, and strong communication skills for working effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to table height.
• Associate's degree or a High School diploma/GED with 3 or more years of experience in an assembly or production environment.
